Key responsibilities
- Planning and coordination.
- Develop and maintain the detailed country implementation plan, breaking activities down to task level with timelines, resources, and deliverables.
- Maintain the country schedule and send reminders on critical milestones and deadlines.
- Serve as the focal point for country-level contributors, ensuring timely inputs and proper filing of project records.
- Data management and quality assurance.
- Run the country data collection system – mobile data collection forms, paper attendance registers and spreadsheet-based tools.
- Receive, consolidate and reconcile monthly returns from 30 Business Promoters, Sales Agronomists and Regional Supervisors against supervisor records and agro-dealer despatch data.
- Maintain version-controlled, backed-up master datasets for farmers, agro-dealers, trainings, demonstration plots, soil tests, sales and distribution.
- Review submissions weekly for duplicates, missing fields and implausible values; de-duplicate the farmer register and keep a written log of all corrections.
- File supporting evidence (signed registers, consent records, location references, dealer stock-book extracts) so every reported figure is traceable.
- Execution and follow-up.
- Support the Project Manager in managing delivery from initiation to closure, resolving issues and documenting approved scope changes.
- Lead country project meetings, including the monthly coordination meeting, and follow through on all action items.
- Coordinate and monitor the planning, scheduling and logistical arrangements for farmer trainings, demonstration plots, soil sampling campaigns, agro-dealer trainings and promotional events remotely, in collaboration with field teams.
- Coordinate baseline and endline assessments remotely, including sampling plans, enumerator deployment, data collection schedules, data quality monitoring and liaison with local field teams.
- Monitoring, analysis and reporting.
- Track milestones and prepare monthly status reports, monthly data packs, quarterly progress reports and inputs to annual and end-of-project reports.
- Disaggregate all indicators by sex, age (youth/older), county and hub, value chain and season, consistently across reporting periods.
- Maintain the indicator tracker (actual vs target, trends and explanations for off-track indicators) and propose corrective action.
- Prepare demonstration plot comparisons, verified success stories (with documented farmer consent) and lessons learned.
- Capacity building and field verification.
- Train and re-train Business Promoters on attendance registers, mobile forms, obtaining consent and data quality standards.
- Conduct quarterly remote verification of a documented sample of trainings, demonstration plots and agro-dealer records using digital evidence, photographs, GPS references, attendance registers and virtual interviews with field teams.
- Give promoters and supervisors specific feedback on the quality of their returns.
- Ensure personal data is collected and held in line with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019.
- Key Deliverables
- Annual country implementation plan.
- Monthly progress reports and data packs; quarterly progress reports with disaggregated indicator tables, variance analysis and corrective actions.
- Clean, complete and traceable country datasets with retrievable supporting evidence.
- Quarterly field verification reports.

- 2–4 Years’ experience in monitoring, evaluation and data management on agricultural, value chain or rural development projects in Kenya.
- Advanced Excel skills – pivot tables, lookup functions, data validation – and the ability to build clean datasets from field returns.
- Hands-on experience designing and deploying mobile data collection forms (skip logic, cascading selects) on KoboToolbox, ODK or similar.
- Demonstrated experience reporting against a results framework with indicator disaggregation for a development funder.
- Experience training and supervising field data collectors or extension agents.
- Good understanding of the maize, coffee, rice or Irish potato value chains in Kenya and the challenges smallholder farmers face.
